The relationship between economic globalization and ecological footprint: empirical evidence for developed and developing countries

Purpose. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between economic globalization and ecological footprint in countries with different levels development using a Feasible Generalized Least Squares (FGLS) analysis.
 Methodology / approach. covers years 1970 2017 for 65 developed developing countries. dependent variable study’s model, GDP KOF Globalization Index (KOF) index are independent variables. CADF panel unit root test, which takes into account cross-sectional dependence, was used choose appropriate test method analysis. Generalised Square Westerlund ECM cointegration analyses were performed model estimation.
 Results. Economic have considerable relationship, according results FGLS has long-run negative impact on footprint. Environmental problems being addressed as result more globalization, faster technology development, consequently decreased usage natural resources.
